Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24, 72 at Long Beach in CA. When she was a young girl, DuVernay's aunt Denise encouraged her passion for the arts and her creative side. The aunt she had was a nurse and was a night shift worker so she could dedicate her time to literature, theatre, and art. DuVernay immediately was captivated with that 1961 West Side Story film. DuVernay discovered through her example the power of art as an avenue for action. Her mother was also a an awareness of social issues and showed DuVernay how to convey messages via artwork. DuVernay had her summers spent in Lowndes County Alabama, where the father of DuVernay was born and was raised. DuVernay's father recalled watching the historic civil rights march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the nearby town Selma Alabama. DuVernay would use her summers in Alabama as inspiration for her next film, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In the year 1990, DuVernay was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood California. In 1990, she completed her studies at the Saint Joseph High School located in Lakewood CA. While she was still studying, DuVernay began to consider producing for television journalism. DuVernay was an intern at CBS News at the time of the O.J. Simpson's trial. DuVernay recalled being instructed to examine the garbage from a home belonging to a jury member. Her tasks to accomplish left her unsatisfied and, following her decision to not pursue the field of journalism, she was able to move into the industry of publicity. DuVernay was hired straight from college to be an assistant publicist in the studio that was small. She was promoted to the position and set up her own company for public relations called The DuVernay Agency in 1999. Apart from PR, the agency developed several lifestyle websites like Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective Urban Eye, HelloBeautiful.
